Breastfeeding Preparation Class

The breastfeeding preparation class is designed to give the expectant mother the necessary confidence and knowledge in breastfeeding to ensure the best start possible. It is delivered by Dr Sinéad Gavin, a mother and a General Practitioner with a special interest in breastfeeding.

Who should attend the class?

The class is suitable for all expectant mothers. Whether you are:

  • A first time mother considering the option of breastfeeding your baby
  • A mother who attempted to breastfeed previously but found it difficult
  • A mother who would like to refresh their memory on the skills needed

When should I attend the class?

The earlier you consider breastfeeding the longer you have to prepare. Dr Gavin would advise anytime in the 2nd trimester (after 14 weeks of pregnancy). You should try to attend before you are 36 weeks where possible.

Should I bring someone along with me to the class?

Yes. It is advisable to bring along the person who is going to support you on your breastfeeding journey. However if you’re support person can’t make it, please do come along anyway.

How long is the class?

The breastfeeding education class is a half day course (9.30am-1pm)

How much is the course?

The half day course is €150 per couple

What is included?

The cost covers the course for one couple. The course covers all the topics as outlined above and also allows practice with real life Lactessa Breastfeeding Dolls and other anatomical models and visual aids.
